High time for a High Seas Treaty

After years of waiting and an epic 38-hour-long session, delegates to the UN have finally signed a treaty for the high seas. This will help to regulate and protect novel activities in international waters, including new fisheries and the commercial exploitation of genetic resources found in marine life. Importantly, it also establishes a way to set up marine protected areas in international waters -- something we need to fulfill the 30x30 pledge to protect 30% of the ocean (and 30% of the land) by 2030.

Congrats to all the delegates! Now the hard work of getting this thing ratified begins!
